John Giacco

Clarinet, Saxophone

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Studied clarinet and saxophone with Mr. Jerry Nazer, teacher at the Juilliard Preparatory School. Also took music classes at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Attended the State University College at Fredonia, NY earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Music/Music Education. Studied clarinet with Dr. William Willett, music composition and arranging with Dr. Robert Marvel, and conducting with Dr. Harry King. Upon graduation from Fredonia, joined the United States Military Band at West Point under the direction of Dr. William Schempf. While at West Point, attended Columbia University Teachers College, earning a Master of Arts degree. Studied flute with Harold Bennett, 1st flutist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and clarinet and saxophone with Joe Allard of the NBC Symphony.

Professional playing experience includes: the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Poughkeepsie, NY under the direction of Claude Monteux and Imre Pallo; the Tri-State Opera Company under the direction of Ron DeFesi; played for such notable music personalities as Aaron Copland, Gunther Schuller, Skitch Henderson, Tony Bennett, and Steve Allen.
