Renato Penteado

Principal Dancer

Mr. Penteado was born in São Paulo Brazil, where he began his dance training at the age of seven. He began his training , with Ballet Twin’s Academy and Studium Marisa Ballet . In 1997 he participated in a program called “Special Group of Classical Dancers of São Paulo ”. Through a course with “Cuballet” under the direction of Laura Alonso, he danced as a soloist in Giselle. In 1998, he was invited to dance the lead role of “Siegfried” in Swan Lake. Later that year, he became a semifinalist at the International Competition in Jackson, Mississippi and Varna, Bulgaria. He was then invited by Mr. Villella to join the Miami City Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet, and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2004. In 2007 He married the Principal Ballet Mistress Roma Sosenko. He has performed many leading roles in the Balanchine repertoire, including, Donizetti Variations, Symphony in C, Tarantella, Ballet Imperial and Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, to name a few. In addition, he has performed in Jerome Robin’s Fancy Free, Dances at a Gathering and In the Night, as well as Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs, In the Upper Room and the Golden Section. He has also performed the lead roles in Don Quixote, Giselle and Edward Villella’s The Neighborhood Ballroom among many others. In 2011, together with the Miami City Ballet, Mr. Penteado performed at the “Les Etes De La Danse” in Paris, France, where the company danced for three weeks at Theatre du Chatelet, Mr. Penteado has also served as a faculty member of the Miami City Ballet during various summer programs. Mr. Penteado also performed ,Jerome Robin’s West Side Story Suite and Christopher’s Wheeldon Polyphonia in 2013 – 2014 Season under the new Artist Director , Lourdes Lopez. Penteado has danced many principal roles nationally and internationally with Miami City Ballet including in Torino, Italy, Paris, Venezuela and Canada. Also Mr. Penteado was voted the winner of Dance Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards 2016 for Best Male Performance. Currently Mr. Penteado is a Principal Dancer with the Miami City Ballet.
