Jonathan Lawrence

Teaching Artist

Jonathan Lawrence began his music studies on violin at the age of 9 in Jacksonville Florida. After graduating from Douglas Anderson School of the  Arts, he pursued a Bachelors in Music Education (with a focus in violin performance). He studied violin teaching and performance with Routa Kroumovich and orchestral music with Anthony Hose. While there, he had opportunities to perform orchestral concerts in England, Wales, and Italy. He also worked with the Stetson Community String Orchestra for about 3 years and interned at Freedom Elementary school under the direction of Craig Uppercue.

Following the completion of his bachelors degree, Jonathan Lawrence became the director of the music program at Six Mile Charter Academy for 3 years. He also began to perform with the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra as well as sub with the Southwest Florida Symphony.

As of now Jonathan has taught at Tanglewood Elementary School in Fort Myers Florida for 7 years. While there, he has established a Suzuki Violin Program, a choral ensemble called the Singing Owls, and the Tanglewood Ukulele Ensemble. There are also various musicals that he has directed at Tanglewood. During summers, he conducts string camps with the Music Foundation of Southwest Florida. Jonathan also continues to perform with the Gulf Coast Symphony while also performing gigs across Southwest Florida as a jazz/soul violinist who composes his own pieces and arrangements. He is very excited about beginning his first year in the MusicWorks! Program and hopes to share his passion and joy for music with his new students this year.
