June 812

Sign up Deadline – June 1

Cost: $300

Grades 9 through College | June 8-12 (One Week)

This program is intended as a summertime supplement to the Gulf Coast Youth Orchestra (GCYO), which is active during the academic year. Previous participation in GCYO is not required to participate in this program.

This experience is designed for young musicians of high school or college age who play an orchestral instrument at an advanced level of proficiency. An orchestral instrument for our purposes is defined as violin, viola, cello, double bass, percussion, harp, flute, piccolo, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bass/E-flat clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, or tuba. Musicians who play other instruments can be considered and approved on a case-by-case basis by contacting the GCYO Conductor prior to registration. Advanced middle school students who can thrive in a college-level rehearsal environment may also register after contacting and receiving approval from the GCYO Conductor.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This intensive, five-day experience aims to replicate the rigors of a college or conservatory-level musical environment. Musicians will rehearse challenging repertoire as an ensemble under the direction of the nationally-renowned conductor of GCYO, Mr. Diego Hernandez. This rehearsal process will culminate in a short performance at the end of the last day of the workshop.

In addition to rehearsal, workshop activities will also include instruction designed to enhance participants’ musical development, with topics that may include music theory, music history, music appreciation, practice techniques, and audition preparation. Musicians will be expected to foster a sense of curiosity about music and musicmaking, to be fully engaged in all workshop sessions, and to treat all other participants with respect.

Musicians must sign and follow our code of conduct while participating in any Gulf Coast Symphony Summer Music Camp. Once the registration fee is paid, there will be no refunds.
