David Carlson

Soloist

David Carlson is 17 years old and will attend Barron Collier High School in Naples as a senior in the fall. He has studied piano with Elena Bock for eight years. Master classes are frequently offered to him through the Grand Piano Series. He has won competitions at the Bach Festival, Southwest Florida Music Teachers Association, Naples Music Club, FGCU/Steinway Young Artists and the Young Artists in Fort Myers where he performed at the Broadway Palms Theater. In 2017 he was awarded the Young Artist category winner of the instrumental division and the overall winner of the FGCU/Steinway Young Artists Piano competition. This year he’s won the Southwest Florida Music Teachers Association and Naples Music Club senior division competitions. 

Last summer he participated in the Ithaca Piano Institute at Ithaca College in New York. He supports the Naples Music Club by performing at their events. He’s also part of a group, “A Piano and Two Cellos” that performs for fundraisers and churches.  

David also plays the violin in the Artis–Naples Youth Orchestra in the first violin section. He’s performed in string quartets at Artis/Naples. He has also qualified for the Allstate and All-County orchestras.  He participates in his high school orchestra. 

For extra-curricular activities, David enjoys sports like soccer, cross country and track. This year he qualified to go to track regionals in jumping hurdles. In drama, he was chosen for a part in a Shakespearean play.  He plays keyboard in his church’s worship band.
