Howard Tsvi Kaplan

Costume Designer

Howard Tsvi Kaplan has been resident costume designer for Sarasota Opera since 1998. He has designed costumes for more than twenty productions, most recently Giovanna d’Arco, Hansel and Gretel, The Elixir of Love, L’Amico Fritz, Rigoletto, La rondine, I due Foscari, Così fan tutte, Halka, Attila, The Marriage of Figaro, I masnadieri, Don Giovanni, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Stiffelio, Lakmé, Die Zauberflöte, Werther, Il corsaro, Die Fledermaus, L’amore dei tre re, Alzira, and Les Pêcheurs de perles.

He has designed extensively for both theater and opera companies, including Kentucky Opera, Virginia Stage, Olney, Lake George Opera and Tennessee Repertory. Recent assignments include I Puritani and Les Contes d’Hoffmann for Baltimore Opera and Così fan tutte for Kentucky Opera. For the Asolo Center, where he was Resident Costume Designer for many years, he designed the costumes for Born Yesterday and Hay Fever, for which he won a Handy award.
