Frazar Henry

Frazar Henry is a composer and pianist who grew up in Southwest Florida and is currently a student at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio studying composition.  Frazar composed Seas of Glass for the 30th Anniversary of the Gulf Coast Symphony.

Frazar synthesizes strong narratives (running the gamut from classical to speculative to philosophical) with contemporary sensibilities in compellingly modern music. His works have been described as rich, haunting and—at times—humorous.

Frazar’s music has been played across the country—from Portland Oregon’s Metropolitan Youth Symphony to the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers in Florida. He also composes solo repertoire for himself and diverse instrumentalists. Frazar delights in working with intrepid young musicians and relishes opportunities to compose for—and with—chamber groups and emerging artists who are thrilled to engage with the unknown.

Frazar has been honored with numerous awards for his work, most notably as a winner of the ASCAP Foundation 2018 and 2016 Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. He recently received 1st Place in the 2022-23 Webster University Young Composer Competition after earning 2nd Place in the previous two competitions (2021-22 and 2020-21). Frazar was also awarded Winner – Choral Division and Runner Up – Band Division for the 2022 Hayes School of Music Composition Competition and 3rd Place in The Choral Project’s 2021-22 Rachel Moore Composition Contest.
