MusicWorks! Fundraiser
An event to benefit MusicWorks!, a program for children in Harlem Heights will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 5:30pm – 9:00pmat The Heights Center, 15570 Hagie Drive in Fort Myers. Guests will enjoy live entertainment by the band Strange Arrangement, cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a live auction, and performance by the MusicWorks! students. All proceeds will support the MusicWorks! program at The Heights Center.
MusicWorks! was launched by the Gulf Coast Symphony in 2015 at The Heights Center. The goal of the MusicWorks! program is to use music as a vehicle for social transformation, empowering children to acquire values and achieve their full potential, positively affecting their society through the study and performance of music. The program provides daily instrumental music instruction for the youth of Harlem Heights. It started as a strings-only program, and has now expanded to full orchestra, with an enrollment of 65 students. There is no cost for children to participate and each student receives a full tuition scholarship that provides instruments, instruction from professional Teaching Artists, and all class materials.
“We have seen a transformation in the lives of our MusicWorks! students over the past 2 years, not only in their musical development, but also in their improved academic grades, self-esteem, and behavior,” said Dr. Andrew M. Kurtz, the Gulf Coast Symphony’s Music and Executive Director. “The support of our community allows us to continue providing full tuition scholarships to the 65 students participating in MusicWorks! this year.”
