Gulf Coast Jazz Collective Celebrates Jazz Legend Herbie Hancock Jan. 14
October 28, 2026
Gulf Coast Jazz Collective celebrates an icon with Maiden Voyage: The Many Worlds of Herbie Hancock on Jan. 14, 2027, at the Music & Arts Community Center (MACC) in Fort Myers.
From sophisticated modal jazz to groundbreaking funk and electric fusion, the music of Herbie Hancock has continually expanded the possibilities of jazz, and on Jan. 14, the Gulf Coast Jazz Collective honors his musical legacy. Joined by two special guest horn players, the Collective takes audiences on a musical journey through the many eras and influences of one of jazz’s most influential artists.
Few musicians have shaped the evolution of modern jazz as profoundly as Hancock. Rising to prominence in the 1960s as a member of Miles Davis’ groundbreaking quintet, he became known for his inventive piano style, adventurous compositions and willingness to explore new musical territory. His career has spanned acoustic jazz, jazz-funk, electronic music and collaborations that have brought jazz to audiences around the world.
Led by drummer and Artistic Director Paul Gavin, the Gulf Coast Jazz Collective also comprises pianist Zach Bartholomew and bassist Brandon Robertson, three of Florida’s most accomplished jazz musicians. Known for performances that honor the roots of jazz while embracing its many contemporary expressions, the Collective brings audiences an exciting mix of musicianship, improvisation and musical discovery.
